    Description

Cast brass Civil War to Indian War Massachusetts Militia cavalry sword belt buckle. It has a darker patina and its original body curve. The reverse has its original applied long thin tongue and is bench marked 788. It is period inscribed on the back 1861 three times, 1862 and 1864. It is listed in O'Donnell's Book as being c.1865 and possibly originating c.1861-1865. Many folks believe these buckles where produced, middle to late War, by the state of Massachusetts to supply
Cavalry companies being formed. Most of these companies either never formed or never left the state. I saw one of these buckles dug from a late War camp about 20 years ago. Whatever you believe they are still a neat scarce buckle. It measures app. 56 mm x 89 mm in size. Please look at my other auctions. Including: Bottles, & Civil War: Union & Confederate, Pre Civil War, Indian War, Organization, Military & Uniform button listings. If you have any questions or comments just send me an email.
