Description
This is a choice, low mintage, borderline uncirculated,
"Six Pence"
from New Zealand. It was struck in 1942 during World War II.
The British suffered the disasters of the sinking of the
"Prince of Wales"
and the
"Repulse"
in 1941 and the surrender of Singapore in February of this year. During the war, which started in 1939 for New Zealand, they contributed some 120,000 troops. They mostly fought in North Africa, Greece, Crete, and Italy. They relied upon the Royal and United States Navies to protect their homeland from the Japanese. Which they did.
New Zealand struck this type Six Pence with just 9 dates from 1937 until 1946 with no 1938 coins. This 1942 date had the lowest mintage, while the last silver date, 1946 had the high mintage at just 2,120,000 pieces. The 1947 coins were struck in copper-nickel.
Weight: 2.83 Grams, 19.3 Millimeters, .500 Silver. Mintage: 360,000.

The Coin:
Brilliant flashy white luster. It has a few marks but shows no appreciable wear. Fully original, it has not been cleaned. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
