Description
The Battle Stone's River, (2nd Battle of Murfreesboro) Tennessee was fought for 3 days, December 31, 1862 to January 2, 1863 when the Confederate Army of Tennessee commanded by General Braxton Bragg made repeated assaults on the Union Army of the Cumberland, commanded by General William S Rosecrans. Despite terrible losses by both sides, the Confederates were forced to withdraw, and the Union Forces were able to continue their advances into Middle Tennessee.An original Civil War Union Army cartridge box plate dug on private land just south of the Battle park at Murfreesboro , Tennessee decades ago. The US marked front has a nice green-brown patina, the lead back is complete, with gray patina and the back loops intact, one bent at a 90 degree angle. The plate is approx 3.5" wide. It has a shallow dent in the upper rim, Overall VG condition and a handsome plate.
