Nice Civil War Eagle cross-belt plate. It has 99 to 100 percent of the lead backing, two rusted but very intact and strong iron attachment loops. Above the beak is a small area where the iron is has pushed the brass out slightly,
I purchased this plate from Matt Lockard a Civil War dealer from Fredericksburg I met at a local CW relic show(s) about 12 years ago. It was described as an early battlefield pickup. I do not think that this is a dug relic it is in too good of condition.
I am not an 'expert', although I have hunted Virginia CW relics in the past and collected for many years.
I am currently downsizing my collection.
