    Description

For your consideration, we are pleased to offer this rare enameled “Celebration Of Wedding” -Themed Kutani Porcelain Vase.
The vase is decorated with a soaring Pair of Playful Cranes, Mount Fuji and pine grove.
This lovely vase comes with a Japanese cedar box.
This one-of-a-kind, hand-painted Kutani vase is 6" high; 5-3/4" wide at its shoulder; 3-1/8" in diameter at its base; 2" in diameter opening and weigh approximately 1-1/2 pounds. It depicts a pair of cranes soaring gracefully above a pine grove toward a snowcapped Mount Fuji. In Japan, cranes are believed to mate for life.
This combination of design exemplifies an auspicious occasions and makes them one of the choice wedding gifts. Each feather on the wings of the cranes; the pine grove and snowcapped Mount Fuji are painstakingly incised, enameled or possibly Cloisonné, and hand-painted in black and white against the burnt-orange (Kutani Red) matte finish of the vase itself. Kutani Red also is thought to represent good fortune in Japanese tradition. As is common in earlier Japanese ceramics, white of the porcelain has a slight blue tinges. The word kutani and the letters CPO are stamped in red on the underside of the vase. The CPO mark was used during Japan’s occupation by the U.S. military and dates this vase to the late 1940s or early 1950s. This increasingly rare, vintage vase is in excellent used condition with some detectable wear on its finish and some factory imperfection on its foot but it does not detract from the overall beauty of the design (please see photos).
