Description
Here is a vintage Japanese cloisonne vase in unusual apple shape with strikingly beautiful colors. The vase body is multi-fired glazed metal, most likely bronze. You can see a bit of the metal inside where the blue glaze has a gap formed during the 1500 degree hardening process. As a result of this cloisonne technique, the delicate gold wires are embedded in polished enamel to make this a timeless object of wonder. This is possibly an antique evidenced by it's slight pitting in the polished surface, which I show in super macro photos, but is hardly noticed by the eye.Distinctive earthy brown background brings out the vintage Art Deco green border at top and bottom, and enhances the natural shades of pink and blue. The gold is bright and reflective at it's top and bottom rims.
The design features the national symbol of Japan, the chrysanthemum, and lucky bird symbol, the swallow which represents fidelity in marriage and fertility. The Japanese iris is also represented, which symbolizes
the idea of purifying evil energies, protection, with a message of wisdom and compliments, hope and faith.
It measures about 3" tall and 3" wide, perfectly symmetrical.
