History of creation
By the mid-1920s, a need arose in the USSR to develop the production of domestic cameras - then already quite numerous Soviet amateur photographers had to be content with either extremely rare and expensive imported samples, or low ones. -quality "home" products. On May 24, 1928, the Supreme Council of the National Economy of the RSFSR, in order to reduce the severity of the situation, decided to release domestic cameras based on the most successful Western designs. The development of the camera was entrusted to the Leningrad State Optical and Mechanical Plant (GOMZ). The development of the camera continued from 1928 to 1930, when a new camera under the “Photocor No. 1” trademark entered mass production.
The widespread opinion that "Photocor # 1" is the first Soviet camera does not correspond to reality - a year before that, in 1929, the Moscow artel "Fototrud" began production of a wide-format plate folding camera "EFTE" of a class close to the company "Photocor" [ one]. However, this device was produced in small series, therefore "Photocor # 1" can be considered the first Soviet large-sized camera.
Serial production of "Photokorov No. 1" was carried out in large series from 1930 to 1941 inclusive and amounted to more than 1 million copies.
